The 5 AM Pavement: Fire in the Glass, Firm Earth Below

The air was cool and heavy with dawn when my soles hit the pavement at five in the morning. The sun hadn't shown its face yet, leaving the world wrapped in that quiet, blue stillness where everything feels untouched and unhurried.

A glass of warm golden spice tea infused with turmeric, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper sitting on a stone surface outdoors during the quiet blue light of early dawn.

Walking barefoot against the firm, concrete ground, every step felt like a deliberate choice to be present. There was no grass to cushion the path—just the hard, honest texture of the road grounding me before the rest of the island began to wake.

Inside, the morning carried a different kind of warmth. The sharp, cleansing rinse of warm salt water, followed by that deep, fiery sip of cinnamon, turmeric, and cayenne, created a quiet contrast against the cool morning air. The heat gathered in my chest while the cool earth waited beneath my feet.

Starting late didn't mean losing the day; it meant reclaiming the pace. Out here in the twilight, between the heat in the glass and the cool pavement underfoot, the morning didn't belong to the clock—it belonged to the stillness.
