The 5:23 Illumination: Finding Clarity and Boundaries After a Birthday
The Quiet Boundary
"My phone lit up all day yesterday
with birthday wishes, but today?
Today was different.
The bathroom light popped and
went dark at 5:23 AM, right on schedule for
Day One of my new year.
Instead of getting annoyed,
I just smiled in the dim morning light.
It felt like a clear sign: out with the old,
make room for the new.
I even turned down giving someone
my number yesterday.
Old me might have hesitated,
but new me protected my peace
without a second thought.
Sometimes grounding doesn't
come from a big celebration—
it comes from a quiet morning,
a blown bulb,
and knowing exactly where your sanctuary begins.
