Two Rhythms, One Afternoon
Two Rhythms, One Afternoon
White canvas tops catch the Vieux-Fort breeze, changing the landscape of the grounds just beyond my gate. The barricades are set, the banner is raised, and the anticipation is a tangible thing vibrating through the warm air. The street is officially prepping for the march.
It is a beautiful thing to live at the very edge of excitement—close enough to feel the physical pulse of the island’s joy, yet tucked away safely enough to protect the stillness of a lazy Sunday. Outside, the world builds a crescendo. Inside, I celebrate the soft, steady rhythm of rest.
The Bass Awakes
The canvas is no longer blank. Officers are on the line, cars are moving into place, and the first ripples of bass are officially testing the afternoon air. Segment two of the setup has begun, and you can feel the expectation rising with every heavy beat.
It’s a beautiful contrast to witness—the structured order of the uniform meeting the untamed spirit of the music. The street is locked in and ready. From my seat on the porch, I’m just enjoying the view of the world waking up to dance.
